First Visit

A patient’s first visit to O’Malley Dental typically falls into one of two categories:

Cleaning (Prophylaxis) and Exam

A patient’s first hygiene visit to O’Malley Dental will take approximately one hour.  Our wonderful hygienist, Kathryn, will give the patient a tour of the office, take any X-rays needed (Bite-wings and/or a Panorex), take any intra-oral camera pictures needed, complete a full periodontal (teeth, gums, and supporting bone) exam and cleaning, and explain to the patient any probable treatment recommendations of Dr. O’Malley.  Upon completion of the hygiene visit, Dr. O’Malley will examine the patient, including a head and neck, oral cancer, and comprehensive oral exam.  Treatment recommendations and options will be discussed.  Our office manager, Ivey, will then be able to answer any questions the patient has regarding financial issues associated with the recommended treatment.

Bitewing x-rays are taken to diagnose any cavities in-between the teeth that cannot be seen during a clinical exam.   The Panorex is taken to get an overall picture of the mouth including the teeth, bones, sinuses, and Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ), and is also part of the oral cancer screening.

Emergency service visit:

A patient’s emergency visit to O’Malley Dental will take approximately 30 minutes to one hour as duration depends on the problem and treatment rendered.  Our assistant, Ivey, will assess the patient, obtain a history of the problem, take any X-rays needed (Peri-apical X-rays and/or a Panorex), and explain to the patient any probable treatment recommendations of Dr. O’Malley.  Dr. O’Malley will then examine the patient and treatment recommendations and options will be discussed.  Our office manager, Ivey, will then be able to answer any questions the patient has regarding financial issues associated with the recommended treatment.

Many times emergency visits are “worked-into” the existing schedule for the day.  As a result, emergency patients may have a wait time before being seen as priority is given to scheduled patients.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time to fill out required paperwork, or save time and complete your paperwork with our secure patient login portal.  Thank You.
