Foods That Will Help Your Smile Look Its Best

Posted .

Everything that you put into your body will affect your oral health, including foods. Of course, a good diet is not the only thing needed for your smile to look its best, so you will still need to perform excellent oral hygiene habits such as brushing, flossing and regular visits to our office. However, adding these foods or vitamins to your diet will help your smile stay looking great for years to come.

Spinach

  • Spinach is one of the best sources you can get for Iron, Vitamin A, and C all in one shot. Spinach is also great for your overall health as it features antioxidants. The Iron, Vitamin A, and C found in spinach will improve your oral health by helping your body fight bacteria and infections that can be found in your mouth. If you do not like spinach alone, try adding it to a delicious chicken or fish recipe.

Water

  • Good old fashioned H20 is not only one of the best things for your body, but also your mouth as it will help rinse away any leftover food that may be stuck in your teeth. It will also help wash away any bacteria that you may have missed from brushing. Another advantage of water is that is will help prevent dry mouth and bad breath.

Tea

  • Black and green tea are helpful for your mouth as they will stop the growth of harmful bacteria that likes to hide inside your mouth. Not too mention, these teas are a great source of antioxidants that will also promote your general health.

Anything With Vitamin C

  • Oranges, Strawberries, Blueberries, and other fruits and veggies that are packed with Vitamin C will bolster your immune system which will help your body fight infections or wounds that may come from dental surgery.

Gum

  • Believe it or not, gum will help your mouth in producing saliva which helps wash away any resting bacteria. Do not get too excited as we recommend that you choose a sugar-free gum to prevent the potential development of tooth decay or cavities.

There are many other diet options that will help with your oral health, at your next visit with Dr. O’Malley, be sure to ask what other options there may be for you if none of the above interest you.
